The second round of the Italian Historic Car Circuit Speed Championship at the Autodromo dell’Umbria in Magione concluded with a weekend packed with excitement, performances, and twists, culminating with the update of the Group 4 standings following post-race checks.
On Sunday, May 17th, the program concluded with the 2nd Division race , reserved for cars from Groups 3 and 4 and Classic Cars. It was a particularly intense 60-minute race, marked by close duels, Safety Car intervention, and numerous retirements, making the race selective until the checkered flag.
On the track, the initial verdict favored the crew of Danny Zardo and Giovanni Ambroso , driving the Club 91 Squadra Corse BMW 325i , who took top spot in both the overall 2nd Division and Group 4 standings . However, the standings changed the following day, following checks carried out by the Board of Stewards.
Decision no. 7, published on the official race noticeboard, in fact ordered the exclusion from the final classification of the BMW 323i of Giovanni Ambroso and Danny Zardo , finding violations of articles 89, 148 letter D and 215 of the RSN 2026, article 4.3 of the RDS Velocità in Circuito and article 15 of Appendix 5 RSN 2026, relating to the Sporting and Technical Checks Manual.
As a result of this measure, the victory in Group 4 was awarded to Massimiliano Quaresima , who initially finished second, at the wheel of his Maserati Biturbo . Behind him, Silvio Gentilini and Renato Benusiglio moved up to second place in their Peugeot 205 GTI , while the podium was completed by Roberto and Simone Barin in their Porsche 944 T Cup .
In Group 3, victory went to Monegasque Luca Littardi , who took the lead in his Porsche 935 A4 after a long run in the lead. Behind him were Massimo Guerra and Giovanni Serio in their Alfa Romeo GT , followed by Roberto Grassellini in his Opel Kadett GTE .
Among the Classic Cars , Matteo Panini secured another win in the Circolo della Biella Callaway Corvette LM GT2 . It was a challenging race for Panini, hampered by several issues that kept him out of the fight for the top spots, but he still secured victory in the dedicated classification, thanks in part to the retirement of his direct rivals Luigi Puorto and Crescenzio Rivellini in their Renault Clio RS 2.0 16V .
The overall weekend also deserves a mention for the excellent performance by Max Lodi and Alex De Angelis , who competed in the 1st Division race with the Porsche 911 3.0 RS Group 4. The crew finished the weekend with an important third place overall , confirming their competitiveness and consistency after a positive start to the season.
